Allen Helmle, 73, of Springbrook, IA, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015, at his home in Springbrook, surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 16, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Allen will be held from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening also at the church and again, Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Bellevue. Allen Joseph Helmle was born September 1, 1942, to Leroy and Erma (Feller) Helmle in Spragueville. He married Darlene Gerlach on April 15, 1972. They have been married for 43 years. Allen was a Vietnam Veteran serving from 1967 1969. He was a combat engineer in Vietnam for a year during that time. He was proud of his military service and continued to support the American Legion, Amvets, DAV and VFW. After his military service he began a career in construction. Eventually he became part owner of Sullivan Construction in Bellevue. In his healthy years, Allen enjoyed slow-pitch softball, golfing, fishing, playing cards and singing with his friends and family. He later enjoyed visiting the area casinos and getting his picture taken with a big check. Allen enjoyed watching high school sports, he encouraged his daughter, Sherri and many of his nieces and nephews in their many sporting activities. Over the past couple of years we was excited to see his granddaughters, Camille and Scarlett, begin their participation in sports and many other activities. He was a proud grandpa. Those left to honor his memory include wife Darlene Helmle, of Springbrook; daughter, Sherri (Jeff) Biever, South Bend, Indiana; two granddaughters, Camille and Scarlett; eight siblings, Clyde (Mary) Helmle, Carol (Robert) Gerlach, Leroy Jr. (Pam) Helmle, Lavonne (Kevin) Nemmers, Terry (Carol) Helmle, Virgil (Jenale) Helmle, Kathy (Michael) Anderson and Wayne Helmle; a sister in-law, Patsy Burken and many nieces and nephews.
