Ben B. Stanek, 87, of Bellevue, died peacefully Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Funeral Services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue where friends may greet the family from 9:00 a.m. until the start of service. Pastor Paul Gammelin will officiate. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Kingery Funeral Home in Bellevue. Ben was born March 30, 1922 in Sabula, the son of Benjamin and Harriet (Kempter) Stanek. He married Dorothy Maltas on September 16, 1942 in Preston, Iowa He was employed with Prudential Life Insurance Company as an agent for over 30 years. He served in the United States Army from December 12, 1942 to October 21, 1945. He also served in the Army Reserve for several years. Ben was a fun loving, outgoing, and friendly man with a great sense of humor. He was extremely involved in his community. He was a member of the Bellevue Masonic Lodge # 51, KAABA Shriners Club, American Legion Post 273, Bellevue Rotary Club as well as serving on the Bellevue School Board. He had many talents and interests; he enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing, sports and spending time with family. He was an avid Cubs and Hawks fan. He will be deeply missed by all. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, of 67 years, Dorothy Stanek, of Bellevue; three daughters, Mary Fisher, of Davenport, Linda Ries, of Bellevue and Joan (Jerry) Roth, of Council Bluffs; five grandchildren, Leigh (Joe) Hoover, Joe (Audra Pentico) Ries, Kelly (Jeff) Duesing, Ben (Alisa) Roth, and Mike (Samantha) Roth; five great grandchildren and a sister Dorothy O Brien.
