Bette Carlene Goulette, age 93, of Bellevue, passed into the next adventure of her journey on February 8, 2011. She was born on July 24,1917 in Maquoketa. She died in Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, with her family gathered around her. A Scripture Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10 at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Bellevue Private family burial will be in the Esgate Cemetery at a later date. Visitation for Bette will be held from 5:00 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a time of sharing following the Scripture Service. Bette was a creative, adventurous woman who got her pilot's license in the 1930s; taught in public and Catholic schools in Iowa, Georgia and Colorado; was the head dietician at Purdue University when she met her soulmate George, who was teaching flying for the Air Force; started her own line of popular western-themed clothing, Denim Evolution, in Boulder, Colo.; produced many lovely works of art; cross-country skiied into her 80s; traveled to many countries with George, including three trips to Rome where she met Pope John Paul XXIII at the Vatican. Bette was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, George, her parents, Carl and Mabel Dostal and brother Burt Dostal, as well as her sister-in-law Zelda Dostal and brother-in-law Laverne Etting. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Etting, of Cottonwood, Ariz.,her beloved children and grandchildren: Mary (Clayton) Nevans- Pederson of Bellevue and daughter, Morgan (Dennis) Konen of New York City; Mark Goulette (Debbie) and their daughter, Josie, of Walden, Colo.; and Jennie (Chris Moarn) Randolph, of Minneapolis. Bette grew up on the family farm near Maquoketa. She was a teacher at the Esgate one-room school where she and her siblings had attended classes. She graduated from Iowa State University. She and George raised their children in Moultrie, Georgia and Boulder, Colorado, where they enjoyed exploring the Rocky Mountains. Bette will be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched for her caring, generosity, selflessness and happy nature. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, sister and grandmother. She will be deeply missed and will live on in our hearts forever!
