Charles Schroeder Bellevue, Ia. Charles Chuck Schroeder, 80, of Bellevue, passed away on Saturday morning, November 15, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, November 19 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue, with Pastor Paul Gammelin officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7pm at Hachmann Funeral Home, Bellevue and Wednesday morning prior to the service from 9:30 until 11:00am at the Church. Charles G. Schroeder was born January 20, 1934 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Dr. L.V. and Lois (Gardner) Schroeder. Chuck graduated from the Wentworth Military Academy in 1952. He attended Grinnell College, University of Iowa and Augustana College. Chuck met and fell in love with Janet Brooking, they were married on June 1, 1957 in Davenport. In the early 60s, Chuck and Jan started a restaurant, called the Town Talk Dairy Bar in Davenport. Later in 1968 they moved to Bellevue and purchased Hammonds Drive-In, four years later they converted the drive-in to the Anchor Inn Restaurant. They also purchased the Harbor Motel. Together they ran a successful business for over 40 years while raising four children. Over the years Chuck was involved in many organizations, Bellevue JCs, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and St. John Lutheran Church. Chuck enjoyed photography, time on the computer, feeding the birds, summer visits to Nisswa, Minnesota and morning coffee at Horizon Lanes. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 57 years, Jan Schroeder, of Bellevue; children, Pete, of Dubuque, Joel (KayAnn), of Bellevue, Mike (Gwen), of Le Claire and Amy Fisher, of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and a sister Sandee Fruhling. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.
