Clara J. Zimmer

Clara J. Zimmer 101, of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday evening, May 15, 2018, at Luther Manor, Dubuque, surrounded by her family. A celebration of Claras life will be with a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at St. Josephs Church in Bellevue. A visitation will be from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, at Hachmann Funeral Home and again Saturday morning from 9:00 10:00 a.m.Clara was born to John and Mary (Dempewolf) Hoffmann on August 5, 1916 on the family farm. During her childhood years she attended a country school through the 8th grade and later was proud to graduate with her husband and the class of 1969 at Bellevue High School. Clara married Sylvester Dolly Zimmer on November 5th, 1935 at St. Josephs Church in Bellevue. Together they raised six children.Clara was a member of St. Josephs Church in Bellevue and a member of the Rosary Society. She was extremely devoted to her Catholic Faith and guided her children with the grace of God. The rosary was her favorite prayer and often as an evening routine.Clara will be remembered for her kind heart and compassion for others. She enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting, and dancing with the love of her life. She was known in Bellevue as the Avon Lady that everyone loved and welcomed into their homes. Survivors include children; Larry (Nancy) Zimmer of Dubuque, Norm (Betty) Zimmer of Dubuque, Nancy (Mike) McDermott of Dubuque, Mary (Dale) Reeg of Bellevue, Dianne (Jim) Goodman of Marshalltown, Don (Tammy) Zimmer of Marshalltown, 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, & 6 great great grandchildren; one twin sister, Coletta McDermott of Cascade, one sister-in-law; Jean Hoffmann of Bellevue, one brother-in-law; Tom Sheehan of East Dubuque She is preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Dolly, grandson, Mark Zimmer, sisters; Rosella Feller, Luella Kilburg, brothers; Joe and Alan Hoffmann
