Cyril “Cy” Ploessl, 91, of Bellevue, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Monday, November 4, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue. Visitation will be 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue, additional visitation will be 9:00 am – 10:00 am, prior to Mass at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.
Cy was born October 23, 1933 in New Vienna, Iowa, the son of Albert and Alvina (Heying) Ploessl. He married Marilyn Theisen at St. Donatus Catholic Church on October 27, 1953. Cy lived in La Motte until 1999 when he and Marilyn moved to Bellevue. The years in La Motte Cy was active, serving on City Council later as Mayor, a volunteer Fire Fighter, and President of La Motte Community Club.
Cy enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most of all sports. He was a good baseball pitcher, and later was manager of LaMotte Baseball team, Women’s LaMotte Tony’s 76 team and LaMotte Jaycee’s team which he took to the state tournament placing first. Cy worked for the Dubuque Packing Company for 42 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Joe (Nancy) Ploessl, Bob (Molly) Ploessl, Jerry Ploessl, and Carrie (Terry) Steines; grandchildren, Brett (Tami) Ploessl, Tracy (Mark) Oliver, Katie (Michael) Peterson, Michael Ploessl, Justin (Nikkia) Steines, Katelyn (Cody Hasenbank) Steines, and Mariah (Craig) Johnson; great-grandchildren; Caylee, Lexi, Addison, Maya, Gavin, Brayden, Brennen, Tinsley, Paxsen, Haisley, Jax, and Joey; great-great grandchildren, Georgie, and Quincy; siblings, Larry (Linda) Ploessl, Ruth Ambrosy, and Mary Lou Heinricy; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Lawrence “Windy” Kalmes, Wilma Ploessl, Dick (Pat) Theisen, Paul (Bonnie) Theisen, and Carolyn Wertzberger.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Albert Ploessl, Jr., Art (Rosalie) Ploessl, Judy Herrig-Nemmers, Helen Kalmes, and Sylvester “Ves” Ploessl; sister in-law, Mary Ann (Orlyn) Till; and brothers in-law, Fritz Wertzberger, Roger Heinricy, and Harold Ambrosy.
