Darlene Reeg, 88, of Bellevue, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Monday, October 28, 2013 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. Friends and family may call at Hachmann Funeral Home, Bellevue on Friday, November 1 from three to seven in the evening. A funeral service will be held at ten-thirty in the morning on Saturday, November 2, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Donatus. On Saturday, friends may call at the Church beginning at nine in the morning. She was born on February 21, 1925 in St. Donatus to Clarence and Edna Schenk. She married Robert John Reeg on November 5, 1946 and they farmed together for 49 years in the St. Donatus area until his death in 1996. Darlene is survived by her sister, Dorothy Schroeder, her four children, Robert (Bob) Reeg (wife Gigi) of Bellevue; Dale Reeg (wife Mary) of St. Donatus; Gloria Reeg (husband Steve Given) of Bainbridge Island, Washington; and Nancy Gorski (husband Stan) of Manahawkin, New Jersey. In addition, she is survived by eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, of whom she was so proud. She was a devoted member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Donatus. Her family and friends will fondly remember Darlene for her incredible energy, enthusiastic willingness to cook for them, and impressive holiday dinners which included riced potatoes and at least two jello salads. She loved traveling, her huge garden, snowmen, the Chicago Cubs, and a rousing game of cards. In fact, she was never without both a deck of cards and a camera in her purse. Darlene dearly loved her husband Bob and the life they shared on their beautiful farm near St. Donatus. They are now together again.
