David John Ries, 60, of Bellevue, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at his home in Bellevue, under the care of Hospice of Jackson County. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home and again, Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 until procession to church. Dave was born on February 8, 1948, in Bellevue, son of Arnold and Virginia (Ablen) Ries. He married Linda Stanek on November 20, 1971 at St. John Lutheran Church. He was service manager at Tills Garage for 40 years. Dave had a great sense of humor, he took every opportunity to tease and joke with everyone he knew. In his younger years he was very active in playing baseball, softball and golf. In the winter time, Dave enjoyed bowling and playing fat man basketball. He enjoyed watching Hawkeye Sports, NASCAR and was a die hard Yankee and Dale Earnhardt fan. His hobbies included, restoring old pedal tractors and gardening. Dave enjoyed being with friends and family, he especially enjoyed rides on uncle Kennys tractor and wagon. He was a friend to many and will be deeply missed by all. Surviving is his wife, Linda Ries, of Bellevue; son, Joseph Ries, of Bellevue; daughter, Kelly (Jeff) Duesing, of Bellevue; two brothers, Gary (Christina) Ries, of Maquoketa and Dale (Carol) Ries, of Bellevue; sister, Darla (Mike) Baker, of Maquoketa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Jonathan. A David Ries Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to thank Dr. Schultheis and the Oncology Department at Medical Associates, the Jackson County Hospice and Daves many friends and family, for their overwhelming support, care and compassion shown over the past couple of months.
