Donald Dixon, 77, died peacefully, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A gathering for a Celebration of Don's life will be held from 1-3 December 17th, at Manny's in Savanna. Don was born March 21, 1939 in Stockton, Illinois, son of Paul and Nettie Mae (Coppernoll) Dixon. He married Vicky L. Collins, they were married for 45 years, she passed away February 20, 2012.Don proudly served the United States Air Force from 1959-1963. In his early years, Don managed a local business and a national retail chain store. He owned and operated several local businesses including, Dixons Deluxe Diner for many years. He always enjoyed tinkering with his hobby farm. Don retired from the railroad. After retirement he managed the Savanna Car Wash where he enjoyed visiting with his customers. He never met a soul he wouldnt help or an dog he wouldn't take home. Don is survived by his son, Don Dixon, of Bellevue; a granddaughter, Lisa Nicole ; two brothers, Bob (Joretta) Dixon, and Dennis (Marianne) Dixon; and two sisters, Nancy Foley and Arlene (Sonny) Winkler.Don is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Vicky.
