Donna Lou Valant

Donna Lou Valant, 79, of Bellevue, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque. A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 30 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Per Donna's wishes there will be no visitation prior to the Memorial Service. Arrangements are being handled by Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Donna was born on February 23, 1932 in Oxford Junction, daughter of Hans and Agnes (Kostacheck) Petersen. She married Victor F. Valant on February 6, 1954 in Oxford Junction, Iowa, he passed away February 3, 1998. Donna grew up in Oxford Junction as an only child and graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1950. From an early age she enjoyed sports. She was a lifelong Cub Fan and also enjoyed watching NBA and College Basketball. In her early years she worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa. She then raised four children and later worked at the Harbor Motel for many years. Donna was extremely easy going, witty, and possessed a great sense of humor. She enjoyed people and never met a stranger. She had a passion for gardening and feeding her birds. Donnas life centered around her family. She was extremely proud of her grand children and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. Those left to honor her memory include her two sons, David (Susan) Valant, and Daniel (Gisele 'Dixie') Valant, both of Bellevue; two daughters, Debra (Jerry) Schaefer, of Portland, Tennessee, and Diana (John) Schneider, of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren and two on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and granddaughter, Tory.
