Dorothy Schroeder was born on November 10th, 1922 in St. Donatus, Iowa. She was the daughter of Clarence and Edna Schenk. She married Orville Schroeder on October 4th, 1921 at St. John Lutheran Church in St. Donatus. She and her husband farmed and raised their family in rural LaMotte; he preceded her death on January 14th, 1985. Dorothy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She had a gift for making those around her feel loved and cared for. Whether it was through her incredible cooking, containers filled with baked good, birthday cards, time and effort put into her quilts or simply sharing stories around the dinner table, she exuded love and thoughtfulness in all that she did for others. Dorothy could often be found quilting in the church basement, sharing in fellowship, a game of Footsie, or enjoying a glass of Wild Irish Rose. Her faith and involvement in the church was also very important to her. When children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren joined her in the church pews at St. Johns, she would beam with pride, joy and gratitude to God. Those left to honor her memory include her children, David (Betty) Schroeder, of Bellevue, IA, Margaret (Jim) Schultz of McGregor, IA, Karen (Terry) Foran of Indianola, IA, Annette Schroeder (Charlie Coons) or Minneapolis, MN, and Joyce (David) Horstmann of Dubuque, IA; grandchildren Sharyn (Jeff) Bergan of Norwalk, IA, Sandi Schroeder (Eric Barkema) of Ankeny, IA, Scott (Heather) Schroeder of Napavine, WA, Jon (Joan) Schroeder of Woodbury, MN; Sarah (Kyle) Zieser of Independence, IA, Steve (Angie) Schultz of Oak Harbor, WA, Ben Horstmann of Rockport, TX, and Rachel Horstmann of Eden Prairie, MN; and eleven great-grandchildren.
