Dr. Roger Louis Schladetzky, 87, of Bellevue, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Mill Valley Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Family will greet friends 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Friday, November 10, 2023 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue, additional visitation will begin at 9:30 am, Saturday at the church prior to services. Burial with Military Honors conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post #273 will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bellevue.
Roger was born May 21, 1936 in Anamosa, Iowa to Louis and Celena (Mardorf) Schladetzky. He graduated from Olin High School in 1954 and then from Iowa State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1960. Roger served two years in the Army Veterinary Corp at Fort Dietrich, Maryland, where he obtained the rank of Captain. Roger married Eunice Hagen on July 7, 1963 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello, Iowa. They moved to Bellevue, where he opened a Veterinary Practice and maintained it for 32 years, retiring on January 1, 1995.
Roger was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was active. He was a lifetime member of the AVMA, IVMA, and Bellevue American Legion Post #273, serving on the Legion Honor Guard. He volunteered with the Bellevue Bread Basket and was a 14-year member of the Jackson County Conservation Board. He was a 57-year member of the Bellevue Rotary, serving as secretary/treasurer for 13 years. After retiring, Roger and Eunice delivered motor homes across the country. They also enjoyed traveling, especially to Switzerland, Alaska, and Hawaii. Roger and Eunice served as Grand Marshals of the Bellevue Heritage Parade in 2001. “Doc” enjoyed woodworking, building furniture for his family and church. He was an avid outdoorsman which included hunting, bear, moose, mountain sheep, and upland birds.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice; children, Brian (Molly) Schladetzky, Brenda Schladetzky, and Robert (Amy) Schladetzky; grandchildren, Austin Brock, Aaron Brock, Arthur Brock, Jonathan Schladetzky, Laura Schladetzky, Lauren Schladetzky, and Megan Schladetzky; brothers and sisters in-law, Charles (Judy) Hagen and Keith (Carol) Hagen.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Celena Schladetzky; father and mother in-law, George and Dena Hagen; and a brother and sister in-law, Donald (Ardis) Hagen.
A memorial fund has been established in Roger’s memory.
