Edward J. Dunn, 93, of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday morning, August 30, 2011 at Mill Valley Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Ed will be held from 4:00 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again Friday morning after 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Edward Dunn was born on May 4, 1918 in Bellevue, son of William and Susan (Lucke) Dunn. He married Kathleen Till on July 17, 1942, she passed away July 10, 1962. He married Elaine Hopson on February 16, 1967. Ed was a World War II veteran and flew 33 missions over Europe. After the war he returned to Souix City, Iowa and trained pilots to fly B17s and B29s. After being discharged he returned to Bellevue where he farmed and raised beef cattle. After retiring, he and his wife Elaine enjoyed playing golf, dancing and traveling to Florida during the winter where they made many new friends. In Bellevue he loved to play golf in tournaments and in league and was a charter member of the Bellevue Golf Club. He was an avid Cub/Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed watching the local kids play ball. He enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifelong member of St. Josephs Parish in Bellevue. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 44 years, Elaine, of Bellevue; four children, Edward Daniel (Barbara) Dunn, of Roseville, California, Michael (Glenna) Dunn, of Roanoke, Virgina, James P. (Kathy) Dunn, of Bellevue, and Suzanne (Bernie) Steines, of Bellevue; a step-son Richard (Pat) Hopson, of Bellevue; 15 Grandchildren, 15 great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen; a brother William Pete Dunn; and two sisters, Anna Mae Dunn and Margaret Maier.
