Eleanor May Griebel, 95, of Bellevue, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Pastor Paul Gammelin will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue, and on Monday, June 29, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church. Eleanor was born April 12, 1920, the daughter of Herman and Edna (Felderman) Hueneke. She married Vernon Griebel on September 2, 1952, at Wartburg Seminary Chapel in Dubuque. For 33 years, Eleanor and Vernon farmed together on Vernons family farm north of Bellevue. Eleanor loved farm life and took great pride in her magnificent flower garden. She enjoyed entertaining and was known as an excellent cook and baker. Family and friends remember especially her delicious rolls, cream slice and apple coffee cake. Eleanor was an active and lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church . She and Vernon enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and together they visited many popular tourist destinations. For eight years, Eleanor worked at Hingtgens Boutique in downtown Bellevue. Owner Charlene Hingtgen and Eleanor bonded during gift show trips to Chicago and remained close friends for the rest of Eleanors life. In 1985, Eleanor and Vernon left the farm and moved into town. Eleanor is survived by her sister, Lois Moore, of Maquoketa; her dear friend and caregiver, Charlene Hingtgen of Bellevue; her double-cousin Shirley Harvey of Cedar Falls, five nieces and nephews, David (Christine) Moore, Alan (Judith Fletcher) Moore, Phillip (Jane Anderson) Moore, Vaneta Taplin, and Darlys Matthews; great nieces and nephews, Ruth Caven, Steve Taplin, Barb (Larry) Hopson, Karen (Kenny) Rogis, David (Jeannie) Taplin and many other relatives. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, in 2009, and her brothers, Eldon and Herbert Hueneke. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, the Rickert Lodge & Retreat Center, or Bellevue Voluntary Ambulance Services. The family is most grateful for the care and attention provided by the staff at Mill Valley Retirement Center and by Pastor Paul Gammelin, who brightened Eleanors life in her last years.
