Ellery P. Gunther, 87, of Bellevue, Iowa, passed away, Thursday morning, January 19, 2017 at Crest Ridge Care Center in Maquoketa.A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 21 at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Burial will be in the First Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation for Ellery will be held from 12-2pm Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.Ellery was born July 20, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, son of Charles and Matilda Gunther. He married Luella Corie, they divorced. He later married Virginia Coakly, she passed away December 10, 1996.Ellery was a steel worker most his life, he worked for ACME Steel in Riverdale for over 30 years. After retirement, he and Virginia moved to Bellevue. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing bingo and tinkering around in his shed.Those left to honor his memory, include his four children, Peter (Cathy) Gunther, Joyce (Frank) Avanzo, Laverne Jackson and Louann (Daniel) Hamil; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.Ellery is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, James; four brothers, and a sister.
