Florence M. Fischer, 84, of Bellevue, died, Monday, July 21, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at Kingery Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the Funeral Home. Florence was born on November 24, 1923, in Isabell, South Dakota, daughter of Gustav and Lydia (Graff) Oshsner. Her mother passed away in May of 1924, she was then raised by Ludwig and Laya Pfeifer. Florence married Edwin Fischer on February 14, 1943. Edwin passed away January 21, 2007. Florence was a teacher for over 38 years, she started teaching at the age of 19 in a one room country school house in North Dakota. Even after retirement, she continued to tutor children in their homes. She received her Bachelors Degree from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. She was known by most people for having a great sense of humor and giving everyone a hard time. She enjoyed bingo, doing crafts and sewing. Being with people and spending time in the winter in Las Vegas with her husband were also special to her. Surviving is her daughter, Vivian (John) Pitlo, of Bellevue; and a sister Elaine (Maynard) Schmidt, of Sturgis, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a sister. A Florence M. Fischer Memorial Fund has been established.
