Gerald J. Hingtgen, 73, of Bellevue, passed away Saturday, July 09, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Gerald will be held from 3:00 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again Wednesday morning after 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Gerald was born on July 14, 1937 in Bellevue, son of Clarence and Irene (Abeln) Hingtgen. He married Charlene Runde on February 23, 1963 in Bellevue. Gerald was a hard worker. Many times he held more than one job at a time. His first full time job was with Gibson Manufacturing in Bellevue. He was also employed with Clinton Engines, Dubuque Packing Co., and later John Deere Dubuque Works were he retired after 31 years of Service. After retirement he owned and operated Hingtgen Trucking, worked for Steines & Sullivan Construction and Bellevue Sand & Gravel Co. Gerald was a member of the St. Joseph Parish and its Rosary Society, The Carwash Club, and an honorary member of the Bellevue Ambulance Service. He was outgoing, generous and always had time for others. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 48 years, Charlene; three children, Lauri (Randy) Feller, of Bellevue; Cherri (Donald JR.) Helmle, of Bellevue; and Rick (Bonnie) Hingtgen, of Eldridge. Also surviving are his six grandchildren Lisa, Gina, Justin, Jared, Austin, Brandon; one step-grandson Nick; two brothers, Clifford Hingtgen and Vern (Peg) Hingtgen; two sisters, Marilyn Dunne and Lois Weinschenk and his beloved dog, Tiki. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Averle Mueller. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice of Jackson County, Dr. Kirkendall, and Nurse Katie for all of the kind support they have given.
