Harry N. Wagner, 83, of Bellevue, reunited with his wife in Heaven on Sunday, February 19, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Bellevue. Visitation for Harry will be held from 3:00 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again Thursday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Harry was born on January 6, 1934 in Bellevue, Iowa, son of Clarence and Rosetta (Steichen) Wagner. He married Phyllis Wagner on August 23, 1955 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook, Iowa. He served in the armed forces from 1956 to 1958. During that time Harry and Phyllis had the opportunity to live in Germany. After returning from Germany, Harry worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa Iowa. He then worked at John Deere while working the family farm north of Bellevue with his parents, wife and children. Harry's past time was visiting with others. For many years, Harry met every morning with his "coffee club" members where stories and good laughs were shared. He enjoyed visiting with his friends, family members, and of recent, his association list included the staff and residents at Mill Valley Care Center. He strategically placed his chair in his room at Mill Valley so he could look in the mirror to see who was coming down the hallway and offer a big greeting to them before they even got close to his door. Harry made conversation with whomever crossed his path. Anyone who knew Harry quickly recognized that he was a man with a great sense of humor. He always had a funny story to share or a memory from the good ole days, a joke to tell or a prank to play on someone, especially his grandchildren. He loved teasing his grandchildren and calling them by the "pet name" he made up for them. As much as he joked around with his children and grandchildren he never missed a beat when it came to their personal lives. He remembered them on birthdays and talked with them about school, extracurricular activities, jobs, or significant others. Harry usually had a memory to share of his own or offered some words of wisdom. When Harry was not visiting with others he enjoyed watching or listening to a good basketball game or reading the paper. Those left to honor his memory, include his children: Jeff (Paulette) Wagner, Jodi (Mark) Banowetz, and Joel (Kristi) Wagner all of Bellevue, and five grandchildren Joshua Wagner, Tyler Banowetz, Lindsey Banowetz, Taylor Wagner, and Alyssa Wagner. One sister Betty (Wayne) Steichen, two sisters in law, Sharon (Maynard) Kloft, Cheryl (Loran) Roling, and brother in-law Roger Budde. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his parents, and a sister in-law, Linda Budde.
