Herbert Scheckel

Herbert M. Scheckel, 100, formerly of Bellevue, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 8:00 p.m. Friday evening, November 22, 2013 at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. A private family service will be held at the same location on Saturday with burial following in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in La Motte. Herbert was born November 12, 1913, in Huntimer, South Dakota, son of Nicholas and Mary (Dresch) Scheckel. Herbert farmed all his life on the home farm near La Motte. He loved farming, raising cattle and being outdoors. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the timber. Herbert was a beloved Uncle and a treasured friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those left to honor his memory include his nieces and nephews, John, Stephen and Susan Scheckel and Deborah Cobb. Herbert is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Nicholas, his three brothers, Gerald, Raymond, and Ralph, his sister Adelaide and his niece Mary Pat Langlois.
