Anna Irene Collins, 87, of Bellevue, a former Chicago resident, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at Mill Valley Care Center after a brief illness, with friends by her side. Irene was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Chicago, Ill. to Ann (Stumph) and Emmett Collins. She attended school in Chicago and St. Theresa College, Winona, Minn. She received her R.N. training from Evangelical Hospital in Chicago. Her nursing career spanned 30 years, during which time she specialized in neurosurgical nursing and private duty care. Irene always showed her patients great compassion. She retired and moved to Bellevue in 1980 to be closer to her friends, the Kendells. In 1987, she began her second career as Manager of City Sales for Annies Acres and enjoyed selling strawberries and visiting with the public. She had a great love for animals and gardening. Irene is survived by a brother, Robert, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. In accordance with Irenes wishes, there will not be a visitation and burial will be private, in the Potter Cemetery, Paradise Valley. Hachmann Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Irenes Bellevue friends want to extend their thanks to the staff at Mill Valley Care Center for the care and compassion they showed Irene during her stay.
