Jane E. Melton, 69, of Bellevue, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, May 4, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Jane will be held from 4:00 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 at the funeral home. Jane was born on July 16, 1943 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, daughter of Joseph and Domitilla (Molloy) Herrig. She married Dan Melton on August 31, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Jane graduated from Marquette in 1961. Shortly after her marriage to Dan they moved from Dubuque to Griffith, Indiana. During their 50 years of marriage, Jane and Dan resided in Elgin, Illinois, Hanover Park, Illinois, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Genoa, Illinois, and raised three children and welcomed three grandchildren. Jane was a homemaker and also worked outside the home as a bank teller and EKG Technician. Jane and Dan retired and returned home to Bellevue in 2002. Most recently, they had spent winters in Florida, as Jane loved the ocean. Jane had a personality that filled the room. She had a great sense of humor and was always the life of the party. Jane was extremely smart, witty and never missed a beat. She was a wonderful cook. Jane had a passion for all types of music, she played the piano and never missed the Sunday morning Big Band Mystery Discs Radio Show on WEKZ out of Monroe, Wisconsin. She will be deeply missed by all. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Dan, of Bellevue; three children, Molly (Brent) Grover, of Dubuque, Christopher (Ronda) Melton, of Missoula, Montana; and Jessica (Andy) Espinoza, of Chicago; three grandchildren, Corey and Payton Grover and Gabriel Melton; and three siblings, Chuck (Janet) Herrig, of Port Charlotte, Florida, Susan (Bill) DeSouza, and Margaret (Gary) Weidler, both of St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Katie Schroeder.
