Janice Thielen

Janice J. Thielen, 76, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, February 4, 2017 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.A funeral service for Janice will be held at 11:00am, Friday, February 10, at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00am, prior to the service also at the Funeral Home. Janice Knapp was born February 10, 1940 in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Hazel (Brainard) Knapp.She spent her early years as a homemaker, raising her five children. Janice later worked in childcare at St. Nicholas Preschool. Years later she returned to college and received a degree in Social Work and began a career in public service. Janice always found comfort in helping others. She especially had a special place in her heart for children. Janice will be deeply missed by all.Those left to honor her memory, include her four children, Alan (Teresa) Thielen, of Bellevue, Scott Thielen, of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, Amy Thielen, of Dubuque, and Jane Thielen, of Sherman, Connecticut; seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren; brother Roger Knapp; and two sisters, Hazel (Joe) Kout and Rita (Harold) Severson.Janice was preceded in death by her parents, son, Eric Thielen and brothers and sisters, Roy Knuppe, Ruby Wickham, Fred Knapp, Dorothy Dennison and Ruth Waddington.
