John H. Manderscheid, 89, of LaMotte, died peacefully, Wednesday, March 12, 2008, surrounded by his family at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in LaMotte, where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #273. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, at The Kingery-Lemke Funeral Home. Pallbearers included, Mike Manderscheid, Shane Kremer, Tammy Frank, Jon Pankowski, Kolby Kipp, and Austin Huss; honorary pallbearers included, Diana Rothermel, Tanya Roeder, Shelley Welu, Jenny Ambrosy, Abby and Jeff Wittman, Sheila Bonifas, Ben and Parker Pankowski, Kyle Kipp, Erin Roeder, and Alison Huss John was born on December 22, 1918, in LaMotte, son of William and Mae (Hayes) Manderscheid. He married Rosella C. Haxmeier on May 7, 1946 in St. Donatus, she preceded him in death on July 2, 2005 after 59 years of marriage. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He owned and operated Manderscheid Tap in LaMotte for over 29 years and later worked at the Adams Company in Dubuque for several years. John was an easy going man who had a tongue and cheek sense of humor. He always wanted to know whats new in the little village He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, bird feeding, and spending time with family. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 273 for over 60 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1354, and charter member of the LaMotte Fire Department, the first to serve as fire chief. Surviving are his two sons, Dale (Carol) Manderscheid, of LaMotte, and Tim (Kim) Manderscheid, of Burlington, Iowa; four daughters, Jane (Mike) Wittman, of Ankeny, Iowa, Patricia (Gary) Bonifas, of LaMotte, Brenda (Paul) Pankowski, of LaMotte, and Wanda (Randy Kingery) Huss, of Bellevue; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Nemmers and Rita (Gerald) Arensdorf, both of LaMotte. He was preceded in death by his wife, four sisters, and one brother. In lieu of flowers a John H. Manderscheid Memorial Fund has been established.
