Judith "Judy" Kay Scheckel

Judith “Judy” Kay Scheckel 74 of Maquoketa passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Mill Valley Care Center.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue.  A visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Judy was born February 25, 1944 the daughter of Odelo and Ila (Herrig) Scheckel. She was one of 12 children born unto her parents.  She attended Jackson County Country School #7 through the eighth- grade graduating May 17, 1958.  She then attended Marquette High School, graduating with the class of 1962.  She also attended the Vocational Academy in Des Moines, Iowa.  Following that she was employed at the Jackson County Regional Center. Survivors include her daughter Jody Scheckel of Maquoketa; 2 grandchildren, Nitessa and Nikita; siblings, Marilyn (Merlin “Pete”) Clasen of Bellevue, Patricia (Gerald) Meis of Iowa City, David Scheckel of Bellevue, Bonnie (Bertrand “Butch”) Coakley of LaMotte, Ruth (Richard) Hopson of San Diego, CA, Tom (Pat) Scheckel of Bellevue, and Jane (Ron) Nemmers of Dubuque; sisters in-law, Lou Ann and Julie Scheckel both of Bellevue; and numerous nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Mary Ellen, Donald, Wayne, Steven in infancy; and a sister in-law, Carol Scheckel.  A memorial fund has been established in Judy’s memory.
