Leland W. Niewerth, 91 of Bellevue, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 27 at McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock, Illinois. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26 at Kingery ~Lemke Funeral Home. Leland was born on October 11, 1917 in Woodstock, Illinois, son of Lyle and Eva (Miller) Niewerth. He married Vera Walsh on October 12, 1940. Leland was a World War II veteran who served in the Navy. He was a salesman for Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola for many years. Leland enjoyed sales and truly cared for his customers. He also enjoyed going to flea markets with his wife and collecting books. He read many books and liked to share them with family and friends. Leland was an amateur historian and was very interesting to talk to. He will be deeply missed by his family. Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Vera; three children, Tom (Nancy) Niewerth of Mundelein, Illinois, Karen (Thomas Gottschang) Turner, of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Judy (Dennis) Beth, of Dundee, Illinois; five grandchildren, Suzanne, Kelley, Ken, Mike, and Jennifer; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly (James) Trumble, of Woodstock. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eugene Niewerth.
