Linda (Herrig) Martens

Linda (Herrig) Martens, 76, of Cambridge, IL, passed away unexpectedly on, Saturday, December 30, 2023.  Family will greet friends 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue, Iowa with Services to follow.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue, Iowa. 

Linda was born November 17, 1947 in Bellevue, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur “Whitey” and Helen (Schilling) Herrig. 

Linda graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1965 as Valedictorian.  She then went on to Mercy Nursing School in Dubuque as Valedictorian.  After working in several Hospitals, she began her studies at the University of Illinois Veterinary School in Champaign, Illinois.  She was the first Women to graduate from the program, and also earned Valedictorian of her class.  Linda owned her own cleaning business in the Quad City area. 

Linda loved her family and her beloved labrador companion, Gus.  She was an extremely humble, and hard worker.  She enjoyed working with plants and flowers, reading anything she could get her hands on, and taking long walks with Gus. 

She will be sorely missed by her siblings, Susan (Walt) Holmes of Bettendorf, Iowa, Larry (Jane) Herrig of Loves Park, Illinois, and Loras (Jill) Herrig of Bellevue, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.  Also, to mourn her loss are her many clients, friends, and fellow church members.  We cannot forget her faithful companion and friend, Gus. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; and one of her beloved labradors, Sam. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to their library of choice or local animal shelter in Linda’s memory.
