Babe was born on July 1, 1928, the daughter of William and Anna (Haxmeier) Lampe. She married Dwain Allen Junk on September 13, 1949, and they celebrated over fifty years of marriage and the joys of raising a large family before he passed away on July 10, 2005. Dwain and Babe enjoyed making memories on their annual trips to Las Vegas for over 25 years. Their favorite pastime was BINGO, which they enjoyed playing together and with friends from Iowa and beyond. Babe’s family recollects that she kept her signature spunk through all her years, never missing an opportunity to start a conversation, speak her mind, or make a new friend. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother, and made many memories around a homemade meal, her famous sugared donuts, and “Gramma Crackers” and milk. Babe cherished spending time with her family on car rides, shopping for the perfect sweater or jewelry, playing cards, and eating out at her favorite local restaurants — especially ordering her “kids” (burger and fries at Richmann’s) and, of course, her coffee with five creamers. Babe enjoyed walks to the Car Wash and looked beautiful with her purple hair always done to perfection. In her last years she remained passionate about her BINGO games and took much joy when Ray and Doris Theisen brought their live music to Mill Valley. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and also volunteered at the Marquette School hot lunch program for many years, handing out peanut butter sandwiches. Babe will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her, from her family, friends, and Bellevue community.
