Marita Dubby Mootz-Goldsmith, 81, of Bellevue, passed away Wednesday morning, February 22, 2017, Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Bellevue. Visitation for Dubby will be held from 3:00 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Marita was born on July 3, 1935 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Daniel and Mary (Melloy) Dougherty. She married Francis Mootz on May 15, 1954, he passed away January 12, 1986. She later married Leo Duff Goldsmith on September 25, 1987. Dubby grew up in Dubuque the fourth child of five and graduated from St. Josephs Academy in 1952. She helped Francis farm the family farm and took care of four very large gardens.Dubby was strong willed, hardworking, loving and giving. She was also generous with her time, volunteering at Mill Valley, the Senior Center and always pealed potatoes and made pies for the annual St. Joseph Parish Pork Roast. Dubby was very active in her community, she was a member of the Red Hat Society, Friendship Force and a multiple winner of the Transplant Olympics in 2002. She enjoyed playing euchre and making quilts for friends and family. She will be deeply missed. Those left to honor her memory, include her children, Kimberly (Michael) Glynn, of Des Moines, Michael Mootz, of Phoenix, Arizona, Patricia Murphy, of Bellevue, Nick Mootz, of Bellevue, Dawn Steigleder, of Adel, Iowa and Damian Mootz, of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a sister, Joan Donovan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, brother, Paul Dougherty; and two sisters, Cecelia Henkes and Kathleen Holtz.
