Mary L. Beck, 84, of Bellevue, IA passed away Monday evening, October 19, 2015 at Mill Valley Care Center, in Bellevue. A Funeral Service for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation for Mary will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again on Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Mary Louise Thies was born October 6, 1931 to Michael and Marcella (Clasen) Thies, in LaMotte, Iowa. She married Gerald Beck on February 3, 1951 at the Holy Rosary Rectory in LaMotte. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2007. Mary was proud to have driven school bus for Bellevue Community Schools for over 25 years. She always thought of all of students as her own kids. Mary was extremely active in the Bellevue community since the 1960s. She was chairman of the American Red Cross Local Chapter for several years. She served on the Bellevue city council, the Heritage Days committee, American Legion Axillary and was instrumental in bringing the swimming pool to Bellevue. Mary also volunteered at the Young Museum, the Community Center, the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Mill Valley. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. Mary remained very active, enjoying golfing at the Bellevue Golf Club, bowling at Horizon Lanes and playing cards with her many friends. Mary will be deeply missed. Those left to honor her memory include her three children; Gregory Beck, Milwaukee, Michael (Jody) Beck, Hanover Park, IL, and Brian (Charlotte) Beck, Ankeny; four grandchildren, Cody, Nicole, Christopher and Natalie Beck; brothers, Merlin (Elizabeth) Thies, Dubuque and Robert (Deborah) Thies, Clinton. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and daughter, Debra Campbell. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Dubuque Internal Medicine, Finley Hospital, Mill Valley Care Center and Bellevue Ambulance for the compassion shown to Mary over the years. Mary was very dedicated to her community and in turn, her community gave back to her in so many ways. The care given to her by her neighbors and friends in her later years sustained her and meant the world to her, she loved you all.
