Mildred Christina was born on March 17, 1926, in Jackson County, Iowa, the elder daughter of Leo and Lavina (Herrig) Manders. While attending a dance in Dubuque, Iowa, Mildred (Millie) met Cletus (Clete) Hoff. They married on November 20th, 1945, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaMotte, Iowa. After 53 years of marriage, Cletus preceded her in death on January 4th, 1999.
In her early years, Millie helped her father & mother on the farm. Following her marriage to Clete at 19 years of age, she and Clete operated their own farm, and continued farming throughout their lives. They spent many winters in Florida in their later years, enjoying the weather and new friends they met there. She enjoyed baking, bowling, reading, movies, crocheting, and summers staying and boating at Spruce Creek in Bellevue. Millie’s family and friends were her main focus in life and she was the happiest when spending time with them.
Millie is survived by her children: Joan (Jim) Parker of Yorkville, Illinois, Joanne Watters of Dubuque, Iowa, John (Ann Bernhard) Hoff of Bellevue, Iowa, and Barbara (Chuck) Davison of Maquoketa, Iowa.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Wendy Parker (Lenny Smith), Chris (Claudia) Parker, Jason (Lynn) Watters, Jeremy (Amy) Watters, Elizabeth (Ryan) Waller, Peter (Alyssa) Hoff, Harley (Steph) Davison, Carrie (Teagan) Rouse and Adam Davison; seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clete, her parents Leo & Lavina, her sister Valeria (Jimmy) Rea and son-in-law Jim Watters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Many thanks to Sunrise Villa and Mill Valley in Bellevue, Iowa, for the heartfelt care they gave in her eight years there.
