Mitchell Roy Kelchen, 40, of Bellevue, died Saturday morning, September 2, 2017, as a result of an automobile accident. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, September 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be held in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Mitch will be from 3:00 - 7:00pm Friday evening at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Bellevue. There will be no visitation on Saturday morning prior to the Mass. Mitch was born on September 8, 1976 in Manchester, Iowa, son of LeRoy and Roselyn (Boge) Kelchen. He married Tina Upmann, on May 8, 1999 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue.Mitch was a loving husband, father, great friend and a respected member of the community. He found the most happiness in spending time with his family and being an officer of the law. Mitch will always be remembered for working in the garage with his boys and attending his daughters games, cheering them on with pride. All his life, he had a way of making people laugh with his quick wit. Those who knew Mitch, knew very well that nobody could win a bet against him and that he was always ready for an adventure.Mitch graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2010 and was currently serving with the Anamosa Police Department. He also was employed at Gateway Door Company in Camanche. Mitch will be greatly missed by his family, friends and surrounding community.Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 18 years, Tina Kelchen, of Bellevue; children, Emma, Nicole, Shane and Tate all at home; his parents Leroy and Roselyn Kelchen, of Dyersville; brothers, Bruce (Marcia) Kelchen, of New Vienna, Iowa, Bryan (Shelley) Kelchen, of Dyersville, Kyle (Mary Jo) Kelchen, of Epworth, Iowa; sister, Laura Kelchen, of Marion; sisters in-law Lori Kelchen, of Asbury, Tami (Matt) Lansing, of Dubuque; brother in-law Dean (Jennifer) Upmann, of Bellevue; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Emily Boge and Peter and Florence Kelchen; brother, Lyle; sister Loretta; parents in-law, John and Maryann Upmann and many aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, statues and benches a memorial fund has been established in Mitchs name.
