Paul Dennis Schwager, 58, of Bellevue, passed away, Monday evening, July 14, 2014, after a courageous battle with multiple system atrophy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Bellevue. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Visitation for Paul will be held from 3:00 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again Friday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Paul was born December 25, 1955 in Bellevue, son of Vincent and Rosemary (Deppe) Schwager. It was a Christmas to remember! Paul was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, godfather and friend. He was always interested in the activities and accomplishments of others, especially his nieces and nephews, and children of his friends. Paul had many talents, and shared these talents generously with others. Paul was proud, independent, smart, stoic, soft-hearted, and very brave. Paul loved Brush Creek and achieved his dream of designing and building his own home in that beautiful valley. He liked to try new things and expand his knowledge. He was a skilled and accomplished carpenter, cattle breeder, and herdsman. Paul served as President of the Jackson County Cattlemens Association. Paul enjoyed all sports, especially Iowa collegiate basketball. At Marquette High School, he played basketball and was Class President of the Class of 1974. Pauls health condition affected his ability to speak and move, but his mind remained sharp as he continued to read and follow the news. Now Paul can speak freely, he can shoot baskets, and he can build beautiful things again. Now he doesnt have to be so brave. The memory of Paul's courageous spirit will forever have a positive impact on those who loved him. Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Rosemary, of Bellevue; eight brothers, Tom (Cindy) of Cascade, Joe (Rosie) of Maquoketa, Lorin (Debbie), Chuck (Kathy), and Mick (Tricia) all of Bellevue, Tim (Sheryl) of Iowa City, Steve (Julie) of Praire Du Chien, and Marty (Jolea) of Des Moines; three sisters, Barbara (Gary) Miller of Maquoketa, Ruth (Jim) Lewis of Dubuque, and Susie (Jonathan) Poulton of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. The family would like to thank Wayne Nims for being such a great neighbor to Paul over the years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Marquette Catholic Schools.
