Peter Porayko, 87, of Bellevue, passed away Monday, April 18th, 2011 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the parish cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #273. Friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bellevue. Peter was born August 5th, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the Nicholas and Mary (Chmielowec) Porayko. He married Henrietta Potempa on July 7th, 1962 in St. Walters Catholic Church in Roselle, IL; she passed away March 20th, 2008. Pete served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 during WWII. He spent most of his career employed as a Civil Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He also served as an instructor for the United States Power Squadron. After retirement Pete and Henrietta traveled the country and finally settled in Bellevue. They felt everyday was a vacation, spending time on the river, fishing, and boating. Pete was known for his gentleness and his infectious smile. He was good natured and always carried a positive outlook on life. He will be deeply missed by all. Those left to honor his memory include his two sons, Michael (Karen) Porayko, of Brentwood, Tennessee and William Porayko, of Forest Park, Illinois; four grandchildren, Christen, Cassey, Christopher and Caitlyn; a special niece, Sue (Dan) Voiland, of Naperville, Illinois; several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife. In Lieu of flowers memorials will be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
