Richard J. Haiar, 82, of Bellevue, died Saturday morning, September 25, 2010 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue where friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the start of service. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion. Richard was born June 16, 1928 in Zwingle, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Wieseler) Haiar. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. When he returned from the service he worked at Clinton Engines for many years and later worked for ADM, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and the AMVETS. Richard was a gentle man who was easy to talk too. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, going to sales, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Those left to honor his memory include his friend, Mary Lou Abeln, of Bellevue; three sisters, Gladys Stokesberry, of Bellevue, Rose Taplin, of Clinton, and Martha Robinson, of Murray, Kentucky; a brother, Isidare (Maxine) Haiar, of Maquoketa, Iowa; and sister in-law, Beverly Haiar, of Teeds Grove.
