Robert J. Portz

Robert J. Portz, 65, of Bellevue, Iowa, died suddenly, Thursday Evening, November 19, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. A funeral service will be held Monday at 12:00 a.m. at Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home where friends may greet the family from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Pastor Ruth Ann Scott will officiate. Inurnment will be in Hazen Cemetery. Robert was born May 22, 1944 in Bellevue, the son of Clarence and Alma (Franzen) Portz. He married Judy Clark on July 16, 1966 in Maquoketa, Iowa. In 1962 he was employed with Bellevue Motor Company. In 1975 he started working at Golden Sun until 1996. He was last employed by Clark Boats. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed tinkering with small engine repair. He was hardworking, honest and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with people. He will be deeply missed by all. Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Judy, of Bellevue; his children Curtis Portz and Lori Till both of Bellevue; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Wylee; five brothers, Russell (Lois) Portz, of Maquoketa, William (Jenice) Portz, of Spragville, Wesley (Donn Ann) Portz, of Leonard, Minnesota, James (Betty) Portz, of Springbrook, and Clarence Portz Jr., of Preston; and a sister Joann Jess, of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Warren Crouch, Brent Roling and the Bellevue Ambulance for their help Thursday evening.
