Robert Joe Marshall, 76, of Bellevue, died Tuesday evening, January 23, 2018, at his home in Bellevue, surrounded by his family.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be held in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Joe will be from 3:00 7:00 Friday evening at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again Saturday morning from 9:00 10:00 at the funeral home.Joe was born on September 6, 1941, in Bellevue, Iowa, son of Robert and Dorothy (Mesch) Marshall. He married Barb Manders on October 22, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue.Joe graduated from Marquette High School in 1960. He worked for the railroad in Clinton. In 1968, he started working for John Deere Dubuque Works, accomplishing a 30-year career. In addition to John Deere he also farmed on the side, which is where his passion was. Raising, training and selling quarter horses is what made him happy. His love for horses led him to his involvement and much time spent at the Bellevue Horsemans Club.Joe was faithful, generous and had a great sense of humor. He loved to visit with people he knew as well as people he didnt. He was a mentor to many and always willing to share his philosophy to teach life lessons. Many people were amazed by his work ethic and the schedule he kept for so many years. There wasnt a job or task he wasnt willing to tackle.Joes family was extremely important to him. He was proud of his family and looked forward to getting new members of his family on a pony as soon as possible. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildrens sporting events. Joe made a real mark on his family and they will think of him often as they navigate daily life. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 57 years, Barb Marshall, children, Lisa (Dale) Meyer, of Bernard, Lori (Doug) Clark, of Bellevue, Paul (Deb) Dent, of Bellevue, Cathy (Steve) Freiburger, of Bernard, Jim Marshall, of Dubuque, John (Mia) Marshall, of Dubuque, and Carrie (Eric) Kilburg, of Bellevue; 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; four siblings, Jerry (Ruth) Marshall, Ruth (Paul Denolf) Jess, Sally Meyer and Kay (Joe) Hipschen; brothers and sisters in-law, Dorothy (Don) Michels, Leonard Manders, Darla (Larry) Hingtgen, Pat (Ole) Dosland and Wayne Manders.He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Tyler Stephen Freiburger and sister in-law, Darlene Manders.In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established in Joes name.
