The Shawn Berthel Family welcomes you to join them 2:00 Saturday November 2, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. For a burial service in honor of Shawn. A gathering will follow at The Bellevue American Legion Hall 111 Market Street. Shawn Patrick Berthel, 23, of Bellevue, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Rural Preston as a result of a snowmobile accident. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Preston, Iowa. Visitation for Shawn will be held from 3:00 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again Saturday morning after 9:30 a.m. at the Church. Shawn was born on November 9, 1987 in Dubuque, son of Roger and Cherie (Hammerand) Berthel. Shawn was employed with Vizient in Bettendorf as an Engineering CAD Drafter. He was an intelligent and extremely witty person with many hobbies. He always kept busy shooting pool, boating, snowmobiling, trap shooting and many other outdoor activities. He was also compassionate, likable and always made others feel comfortable. He will be deeply missed by all. Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Cherie (Lonnie Heister) Hammerand, of Bellevue; father, Roger (Susan) Berthel, of Miles; brother, Cory Berthel; two step brothers, Benjamin Whitten and Joe Heister; a step sister Hiedi (Nick) Kueter; paternal grandmother, Marie Berthel; Maternal grandmother, Vera Hammerand; and many aunts, uncles and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edwin Berthel and maternal grandfather Orien Hammerand. The family would like to give a special thank you to all involved in the rescue effort.
