Sylvia J. Phillips, 76, died peacefully, Friday evening, December 9, 2016 at her home in Bellevue. A Christian Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, December 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in Lyons, Kansas on December 19, 2016. Visitation for Sylvia will be held from 4-7 pm Wednesday evening at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. There will be no visitation on Thursday morning. Sylvia was born November 13, 1940 Little River, Kansas, daughter of Lewis Wayne and Naomi (Durall) Phillips. Her mother, Naomi passed away on December 13, 1941. Wayne remarried Mabel Christiansen on February 2, 1947 and she and Wayne raised their two daughters, Sylvia and her sister Lenna, on the farm near Little River.Sylvia graduated from Little River High School in 1958. She married Ralph Rindt on June 2, 1962. Sylvia attended McPherson College and Emporia State Teachers College and earned a B.S. in Education and taught elementary classes at Dwight and Junction City, Kansas while Ralph taught high school and coached boys basketball. Sylvia and Ralph also farmed and raised their daughter, Jenni in Junction City, Kansas.Sylvia moved to Oxnard, California in1982 and received a Masters in guidance counseling. She taught in downtown Los Angeles until retirement in 2008 and then moved to Bellevue in 2009 to be close to her daughter, Jenni and family. Sylvia loved the family atmosphere of Bellevue and all the friends and neighbors she came to know.Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Jenni (Charlie) Peters, of Andrew; grandchildren, Mathias, Michael, Samuel and Miranda; brother in-law, Tom Kruse and many cousins.Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Mabel; and sister, Lenna Kruse.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Dubuque, First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue or American Cancer Society.
