Terry Putman, Sr., 65, of Bellevue, lost his courageous battle with cancer on September 2, 2013. A private service for family and friends will be held to celebrate Terry's life. Arrangements are being handled by Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Terry was born September 30, 1947 in Bellevue, Iowa son of Edward and Angeline Putman. In 1966 Terry served his country in Vietnam seeing action in some of the most important battles of the war. Twice awarded Purple Heart, Terry spent many months in the hospital recovering from his wounds. After Vietnam Terry returned to Bellevue and spent the next forty years starting a family, building businesses and fulfilling his life-long dream of becoming a Riverboat Captain and piloting tows on the inland waterways. After retiring from his many years on the river, Terry's home would become the daily meeting place for a group of friends that would last for decades. Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Helen their children, Troy Williams, Terry Putman, Jr. Jeremy Putman, Bill O'Donnell, Dorie Putman and Michelle Schmitt. His mother Angie, sisters Judy Manning, Dianne Stutting, Joann Edwards, Paula Clark, Angela Ballenger, brothers Ed Putman, Scott Putman many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Terry was preceded in death by his father Ed and his brother Ronnie. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Jackson County Hospice for their loving care, kindness and support during Terry's illness. Terry will be sadly missed and always loved.
