Thomas Joseph Callaghan, 85, of Bellevue, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Sunrise Villa in Bellevue. A Scripture Service will be held at 3:00, Sunday, February 16, at Sunrise Villa, Bellevue. Friends may visit from 1:00 3:00 p.m. Sunday also at the Villa, Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Tom was born February 8, 1929, in Bellevue, Iowa, son of B. F. and Florence (Rolling) Callaghan. Tom graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1948. He served the United States Air Force from 1948-1968. During that time we was an aircraft mechanic and aviation inspector. Through-out his military career he was stationed all over the world, including Florida, Japan, Germany, Korea, Greenland, Africa and retired in California. Upon retirement he was employed by Pacific Southwest as an FAA Inspector. In 1992, Tom moved back to hometown Bellevue and bought the house he grew up in. He was intelligent and had a great sense of humor. He loved to travel and lived an exciting life, he will be deeply missed. Those left to honor his memory include his sister Jeanne Goetz, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; sister in-law, Mary Ellen Callaghan, of Grand Island, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Joanne Felderman, Rosemary Bizzolara and Catharine Callaghan and two brothers James and John Callaghan.
