Thomas A. Hayward, 67, of Miles, passed away, Saturday morning, August 1, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday morning, August 5 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. A visitation for Tom will be from 4:00 7:00pm, Tuesday evening at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again Wednesday morning one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Tom was born November 25, 1947 in Iron Hill, Iowa, the son of Russell and Algean (Krumviede) Hayward. Tom graduated from Bellevue High School in 1966. He married Susan Schwarz on November 21, 1971 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Tom served the United States Air Force, serving 21 years, retiring in 1989. He worked in communications and he, Susan and the kids lived in many places throughout his career. Upon retirement they moved back to the Miles area, to be closer to family. Tom was an outgoing, happy go lucky person with a great sense of humor. He loved corny jokes, NASCAR, watching all sports and spending time outdoors. Tom enjoyed people and helping out any way he could. He will be deeply missed. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 43 years, Susan Hayward, of Miles; two daughters; Carol (Chris) Piker, of Iowa City, and Teri Hayward, of Green Island; two grandchildren, Zach and Zoey Piker; three brothers, George, Robert (Sandra) and Russell Jr.(Shawna); and three sisters, Judy Reed, Dianne Barker and Lorraine (Sam) Dobson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arlis Krabbenhoft.
