Thomas A. Michels, 88, of Bellevue, died Thursday evening, October 19, 2017, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Monday, October 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be held in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Tom will be from 2:00 - 5:00pm Sunday afternoon at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Bellevue, and again Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00am at the funeral home. Tom was born on November 5, 1928 in Bellevue, Iowa, son of Anton and Irma (Mueller) Michels. He married Mary Lorraine Mueller on August 20, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. They were married for 64 years, Lorraine passed away on April 4, 2010.He served the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 273 in Bellevue.Tom worked for John Deere in Dubuque for over 40 years, retiring in 1987. He was a hard worker and taught his kids the importance of a good work ethic. Tom adored his wife Lorraine. In their younger years the couple enjoyed dancing with their many friends. Tom enjoyed many sports over the years, but bowling and golf were among his favorites. Tom always kept busy, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Bellevue Horsemans Club and the Bellevue Golf Club. He also served as a School Board Member of Bellevue Community Schools. Tom loved spending time with his family, he became especially fond of watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many activities. Those left to honor his memory include his six children, Nancy (Don) Knockel, of St. Catherines, Joanne (Jack) Veach, of Bellevue, Jim (Kate) Michels, of Bellevue, Jeanette (Darel) Felderman, of Bellevue, Barb (Terry) Jensen, of Allison, Iowa, and Jeff (Barb) Michels, of Bellevue; daughter in-law Gail Michels, of Bellevue; 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren; a brother, Dave Michels; and sister, Jane (Leonard) Weber.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine; son, Gregory, a child in infancy; grandson Jason Veach; great grand-daughter, Kayla Jo Michels; a brother, Paul Michels and two sisters, Ann Witt and Barbara Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Toms name.The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, Mill Valley Care Center and Dr. Jeff Hunter, for the care and compassion shown to Tom.
