Valera K. Vals Dairy Queen Ehlers, 85, of Clinton, passed away Monday, April 7, 2008, at Bluff Terrace, Mercy Medical Center, South Campus in Clinton. Val was born March 8th, 1923, in Westside, Iowa, daughter of the late Herbert G. and Elizabeth (Schuman) Snyder. She married Alvin R. Ehlers on December 17th, 1941, in Westside, Iowa. He preceded her in death June 2nd, 1987. Val owned and operated Vals Dairy Queen in Clinton for 21 years. She graduated from Westside High School in 1940, moving to Clinton in 1944. She was a past President of the American Business Womens Association, a member of the Roosevelt PTA, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid and a former Girl Scout Leader. Survivors include, two sons, and a daughter, Carolyn (Thomas Debelak) Taylor, Lenexa, KS, David (Pamela) Ehlers, Russell (Joann Winkler) Ehlers, both of Clinton; one sister, Millicent Stahl; eight grandchildren, Karen Weigel, Janet Sherman, Spencer Ehlers, Elizabeth Glade, Melissa Lankston, Rustin Matthew Ehlers, Maleigh Ehlers and Genevieve Ehlers and seven great grandchildren, Lawrence Weigel, Georgia Weigel, Mekhi Sherman, Zackari Rosas, Rustin Rosas and Tyler Lankston; other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and her husband Alvin, she was preceded in death by one brother Darrell Snyder. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 10th, 2008, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 656 5th Avenue South, Clinton. Pastor Michael Holm will officiate. Burial will be in The Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at The Lemke Funeral Home, North Chapel, 2304 N. Second Street, and again on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of services at the church. The Lemke Funeral Home, North Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
