Vera J. Herrig, 95, of Bellevue, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Mill Valley Care Center, in Bellevue. Private family services will be held at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Vera was born on October 12, 1918 in Bellevue, daughter of Louis and Mary (Deichelbohrer) Petesch. She married Melvin Herrig on October 26, 1937 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Vera was reserved, kind and generous. She was a hard worker and always kept busy. Vera was an interesting women, who throughout her life held many jobs, working to the age of 75. She helped her husband on the farm, owned and operated the El Dorado Motel in Dubuque, and ran an Ice Cream Shop in Maquoketa. She also worked at Clinton Engine, operated a Beauty Shop and later worked in Home Healthcare. She enjoyed reading and doing arts & crafts. Those left to honor her memory include her son, Bill (Velma) Herrig, of Land OLakes, Florida; daughter, Bunny (Tom) Theisen-Higgins, of Sun City Center, Florida; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Roland Petesch, of Bellevue and Ronald (Lois) Petesch, of Hanover, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gordon Petesch. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jeff Hunter and staff at Mill Valley Care Center for the care and compassion shown to Vera.
