Verna Mae Kueter, 94, of Bellevue, died Monday, May 16, 2011 at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue. Services will be Friday, May 20, at11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue, and again Friday Morning at the funeral home after 10:00 until procession to church. A Scripture service will be held at 4:00 prior to the visitation on Thursday. Verna was born Dec. 13, 1916, in Orleans, Neb., the daughter of George and Theresa (Gerardy) Specht. She married Victor Kueter on Jan. 5, 1963, in Bellevue. He died July 4, 1988. Verna, the oldest of nine, moved toIowa with her family when she was nine. Living through the depression made her a hard worker and very appreciative of what she had. She was very kind, generous and always willing to lend a hand. She was very involved in the community and her church. Verna was a very talented quilter and seamstress. She also enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, and playing cards. Surviving are three step-children, Dale (Helen) Kueter, of Cedar Rapids; Carol (Richard) Reiter, of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; and Sandy (Tom) Tegeler, of Clinton; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two brothers, John (Evelyn) Specht of Sherrill, and Robert (Bernie) Specht of Monmouth. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Schulte, Loretta Specht, and Rita Williams; and three brothers, Vincent, Lawrence and Joseph Specht. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marquette / St. Joseph Catholic Schools, or Bellevue Fire Department.
