Vincent P Whitey. Bies 81, of Bellevue, died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at his home. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Vincent will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again Wednesday morning after 9:30 at the funeral home. Vincent was born June 14, 1929 in rural Jackson County, the son of George and Caroline (Kloft) Bies. He married Ruth Goetzinger on October 21, 1967 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. In the mid 50s he was employed with the Tugsten Mines in Nevada. He moved back to the area and worked for Clinton Engines, Drove Truck for Roeder Implement in Bellevue and later farmed south of Bellevue and was also employed as a heavy equipment operator for several local contractors. He was drafted in the United States Marine from 1951 - 1953 during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #273 and served as their commander for two terms. He also served as the Jackson County Post Commander and the Jackson County Adjutant He was a member of the VFW in Sabula, the AMVETS in Andrew and the 40/8. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and helped organize the Bellevue Saddle Club back in the early 60s. Whitey always wore a smile, had a great sense of humor and would talk to anyone. He was known as the mayor of Christian Valley. He enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, gambling, and playing euchure. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ruth Bies, of Bellevue; son George (Karen) Bies, of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Samantha, Christian, and Justine Bies; a brother, Paul (Fern) Bies, of Andrew; two sisters, Mavis (Glenn) Beck, of Maquoketa, and Janella (John) Assenmacher, of Goose Lake; sister in-law, Margaret Bies, of Bellevue; 17 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin; and niece, Donna Dalsing. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hachmannfuneralhome.com
