Violet Rita Kuhl, 80, of Clinton passed away Friday at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Violet was born January 23, 1927 in Kieler, WI to the late Edward and Alice Richard. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy. She also attended Loras College. She married Merlyn Kuhl on September 9, 1950 in Kieler, WI. They had been married for 56 years. She was a cherished wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Violet was also a homemaker. In her free time Violet was involved PEP's Mother's Club and Women of the Moose. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. Violet was always kind to everyone, and believed in and lived by the 'Golden Rule'. She enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with friends. She was proud of and had fond memories of her roots as a Wisconsin 'Century Farm' Girl. Violet is survived by her husband Merlyn of Clinton; Sons; Luke Kuhl of Clinton; John Kuhl of Clinton; James (Colleen) of Dubuque, IA; Daughters; Mary (Craig) Matelich of Great Falls, MT; Carol (James) Crigger of Clinton; Margaret Kuhl of Clinton; Joan (Randy) Current of Clinton; twenty grandchildren; Anna and Matthew Current; Scott, Adam, Jacob and Jill Crigger; Emily, Samantha, Abigail and Alexander Dodd; Molly and Rachel Kuhl; Megan, Mark, Maureen, and Mackenzie Kuhl; Ben, Nathan, Joe, and Tom Matelich; Siblings; Dorothy (Vernon) Alt of LaValle, WI; Robert (Viola) Richard of Kieler, WI; Jeanette (Robert) Klaas of Platteville, WI; Tom (Jeannette) Richard of Kieler, WI; John (Joan) Richard of Kieler, WI; Jim (Mary) Richard of Madison, WI; Larry (Diana) Richard of Mineral Point, WI; and Bob Campbell of Wisconsin; sister-in-law's; Elaine Bromelkamp of Rochester, MN; and Mary Baumhover of Dubuque, IA; and sixty nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; Ed and Alice Richard; two sons; Mark and Greg Kuhl; sister; Carol Campbell; and her mother and father in law; Emily and Oswald Kuhl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Anthony Herold will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 PM at Lemke Funeral Homes-Lyons Chapel, 2304 N 2nd St., Clinton, IA. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
